Norris and Rowe Circus playing in the surf, 1907. In the background is the Santa Cruz Beach Company’s glistening white pleasure ship, the Balboa, anchored a thousand feet offshore. The three-masted, 207ft beauty’s motto was, “Everything to please – nothing to offend.” The ship’s second deck featured a 180 by 40-foot ballroom, and launches ferried visitors back and forth for ten cents a ride.
